First Huizhou International Digit Festival Inaugurated
The grand opening ceremony of the 1st Huizhou International Digit Festival which would last for five days was held on Monday morning in Huizhou of south China's Guangdong Province. Present at the festival are over 2000 Chinese and foreign guests and merchants.

On display at the festival featuring "Informationization and New Economy" are 862 kinds of latest digital products sent by 239 enterprises from 15 countries and regions. They include IBM, Nortel Network, Motorola, Ericsson, Hitachi, Sony, Samsung, LG, Digital Pioneer, Legend, TCL and Haier. Of all the hi-tech digital products exhibited at the festival fair, dozens have leading status in the world in terms of technological contents and functions. For example, the "Intelligent Dog" of Sony and robot of GE have just made their debuts in China.

Business talks and exchanges on digital talents are held during the festival. Monday saw agreements signed on 17 joint venture projects valuing more than US$0.7 billion.

Huizhou, an industrial city concentrating on the manufacture of products for electronic information industry, has achieved a total production value of 4.2975 billion yuan last year, ranking the second in Guangdong Province and the 5th in China. Its electronic information products like telephone sets, batteries, color TV sets, computers as well as circuit boards of computers, cores of audio-visual products, laser head and mobile communication equipment all enjoy a sizable share in domestic and the world markets as well. Huizhou is now an important base of the electronic information industry in China.
