Curator of Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall Slams Japan's Distortion of TextbookThe distortion of the textbooks by Japan is a very serious issue because the Japanese government has legalized the act of altering the historical facts by the rightist forces, said Zhu Chengshan on Sunday, curator of the Memorial Hall to Victims of the Nanjing Massacre. He said the similar cases ever happened in 1982 and 1986, but these two issues were only conducted by Japanese civilian organizations. So far as the present case is concerned, it's largely an action of the Japanese government, for the new textbook bearing the distorted history was approved by the Japanese Education Ministry. Despite the Japanese right-wing forces'attempt to mislead juveniles through a series of dubious conceptions like controversy and doubt on the Nanjing Massacre, the Massacre has already been determined by the international court and proved by the history with evidence of over 1,000 survivors out from the Massacre, more than 1,000 pictures in the Memorial Hall to Victims of the Nanjing Massacre as well as mountains of bones of the killed. History can never be distorted. Zhu pointed out that the Japanese rightist forces are trying to write off this ignominious history under the influence of narrow nationalism and militarism. Besides, the break-up of bubble economy in Japan also drives them to re-mould the image of "Great Japanese Empire" by other means and ways. Nevertheless, their scheme is surely to go against the will of the people of the world. He noted the Sino-Japan Friendship Association and some Japanese friends are opposing the behavior of the right-wing forces and acknowledge this period of history. The Memorial Hall receives lots of Japanese friends coming for confessing and mourning in April, October and December every year. Chinese Ambassador Urges Japan to Handle Textbook Issue SeriouslyChinese Ambassador to Japan Chen Jian on Thursday lodged a protest once again against the Japanese government's approval of a controversial history textbook which contains distorted historical facts, urging the Japanese government to handle the issue seriously. The Chinese government has so far expounded its solemn and just stand on the textbook issue on several occasions, and expressed the Chinese people's strong indignation and dissatisfaction, Chen said in a meeting with Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Yudaka Kawashima.
