Jiang Pays Tribute to Father of Venezuela

Visiting Chinese President Jiang Zemin laid a wreath in Caracas Monday at the mausoleum of Simon Bolivar, paying tribute to the honored "liberator" and "father of the country" of Venezuela.

Jiang was accompanied by his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez during the ceremony.

Later in the day, the Chinese president visited the residence of Bolivar.

Bolivar, crowned as a strategist, politician and thinker in the history of Venezuela, was one of the outstanding leaders who led the independence movement in Latin America in the early 19th century.

Jiang was here for a state visit, the last leg of his six-nation tour to Latin America, which has already taken him to Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Cuba.
