Chinese, Pakistani FMs Hold Talks

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan held talks Monday with his Pakistani counterpart Abdul Sattar on bilateral relationship and issues of common concern.

Tang said that this year is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan and a milestone in the history of the friendly relations between the two countries.

He spoke highly of the great progress in the good-neighborly and friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Although the two countries have different social systems, they have always been able to abide by the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence, understood, trusted and supported each other, Tang said.

He said the Chinese government highly values its relationship with Pakistan and is willing to work with Pakistan to promote the development of bilateral relationship in the new century.

Tang said Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji will visit Pakistan in near future and the visit will be a big event in the bilateral relations. Sattar said the Pakistani people have been cherishing the traditional friendship with the Chinese people.

The government has always considered its relationship with China as the cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy, he added.

The visiting Pakistani foreign minister added that Pakistan appreciates China's independent foreign policy of peace.

Sattar expressed the belief that Zhu's visit will further push the all-round development of the relationship between the two countries in the new century.
