Court Orders Estrada ArrestAn anti-corruption court in the Philippines has issued an arrest warrant for former President Joseph Estrada on charges of graft and perjury. It is the first warrant to be issued against Mr Estrada, whose most recent legal effort to show he was still legally president - and immune from prosecution - was rejected by the Supreme Court last week. In pre-trial motions on Monday, Mr Estrada's lawyers said he would post bail if served with a warrant, so he is not expected to be jailed at present. There are at least six other outstanding charges against him, including economic plunder, which is theoretically punishable by death. |
