Chongqing Foreign Trade up 30 Percent in First Quarter

This western municipality's foreign trade volume totaled 460 million US dollars in the first quarter of 2001, up 30 percent from the same period last year.

According to latest local customs statistics, the city exported 240 million US dollars and imported 220 million US dollars in the first three months, up 45 percent and 10 percent respectively.

The city exported 306,000 motorcycles, its largest single export, up 4 times compared to last year, and 83 million US dollars-worth motorcycle parts, up nearly two times, the statistics show.

Prices of motorcycle and cycle parts are on the decline, as Chongqing's largest motorcycle market of Vietnam is raising its domestic rate of production in the motorcycle industry, according to sources.
