Sino-French Cultural Exchanges PlannedFrench people will soon get a closer look at Chinese culture ranging from what women wore thousands of years ago, to how to play music on a cup and plate and how chopsticks and toilets have advanced in China. Not just a week, but a total 365 days of cultural events and galas are to be presented in France over the next couple of years in the biggest step ever to promote cultural exchange and friendship between the Chinese and French people, according to Monday's China Daily. Chen Haosu, director of the Chinese people's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said Sunday that China and France will designate 2003 and 2004 "Years of Culture" for each other. The exchange will feature art, fashion, folklore, literature and lifestyle from both countries, Chen said. China has been engaged in drafting detailed plans for the events, which were promoted by Chinese President Jiang Zemin and his French counterpart Jacques Chirac during his trip to Beijing last year. Chen said cultural events featuring today's China should be made a priority to help foreign people better understand China's changes and progress over the last 100 years. |
