Some 308 construction workers in Qidong city of east China's Jiangsu Province recently received 1,245 US dollars each as a compensation for loss of wages during the Gulf War.
Plus earlier payment, the workers, all from the Chengbei Village of Huilong Town, have received a total of 1,201,200 US dollars in compensation from Iraq in line with provisions of relevant international laws, thanks to the efforts of the International Labor Organization and related Chinese departments.
Huang Hanxiang, one of the workers, said they were working in Kuwait when the war broke out in August 1990, after which they were forced to return home.
The workers received their first payment of compensation of 2,400 dollars each in 1997.
