Fifth Xiamen-Taiwan Trade Fair Closes

The fifth Xiamen-Taiwan Trade Fair closed in Xiamen, in east China's Fujian Province, Sunday, with a total contractual trade volume of 420 million U.S. dollars, 80 percent more than last year's event.

The four-day event attracted 4,357 businessmen from 65 countries and regions worldwide, including more than 3,000 from Taiwan. More than 12,000 businessmen from China's mainland attended the trade fair.

In 2000, Xiamen and Taiwan traded goods worth 1.2 billion US dollars.

The fifth trade fair was jointly sponsored by China Chamber of Commerce of Importers and Exporters of Electromechanical Products, Xiamen city government and the Electric Machinery and Electronics Guild of Taiwan.)

Xiamen has hosted the annual event, now the largest industrial exposition between the island province and the mainland of China, since 1997.
