Educated Population Increases in Tibet

The number of college graduates per 100,000 residents in the Tibet Autonomous Region has been doubled to reach 1,262 over the past decade, according to results of the fifth national census.

The number of senior middle school graduates has increased from 2,120 out of every 100,000 to 3,395 in the period between the fourth national census in 1990 to the fifth national census held late last year.

In addition, the number of students who received junior middle school education rose from 3,849 to 6,136, and that for those who complete primary school education climbed from 18,576 to over 30, 615.

Meanwhile, the illiterate population in Tibet declined by 12 percent to stand at 850,000.
