Police in South China Smash Nine Drug-Making Workshops

Police in south China's Guangdong Province have smashed nine drug-making workshops, seized a large amount of drugs, and detained 34 suspects.

The police revealed here Saturday that they have seized 892 grams of solid ice drug, 1,240 kilograms of liquid ice drug, over 30,000 ecstasy pills, over 100 kilograms of unfinished ecstasy products, and 11.5 tons of materials used for making drugs.

The police formed their first suspicions on January 18 when local people in the Nanjiao New Village of Nanhai City reported an explosion. The pungent smell and some industrial machines at the site put the police on alert.

The police then uncovered written directions for producing drugs, a chart displaying the production procedure, and lots of chemical materials.

The police later discovered more drug-making workplaces with the detailed information provided by suspects.

The last few suspects were arrested in Guangzhou on March 28. Suspect Jin Yusheng admitted that he has illegally sold drug-making materials to Dandong City in northeast China's Jilin Province, and Indonesia.

One of the suspects was identified as a member of a gang in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The cases are under further investigation.
