Iraqi Vice President reiterates Rejection of UN Arms Inspection

Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan Saturday reiterated rejection of the arms inspections by the United Nations and dismissed any international mediation to get the UN arms inspectors back into Iraq.

"We believe that the arms inspection mission is over and has become something of the past," Ramadan said, quoted by the official Iraqi News Agency (INA). He accused the arms inspectors of being " spies."

Ramadan made the remarks at the opening ceremony of a fair held by Iraqi Ministry of Industry and Minerals on Saturday, INA said.

He also demanded the UN to completely lift the decade-old UN sanctions imposed on Iraq for its invasion of Kuwait in 1990.

The sanctions will not be lifted until UN arms inspectors clarify that Iraq is free from weapons of mass destruction.

The Iraqi vice president claimed that Iraq has fully cooperated with the UN and has destroyed all its weapons of mass destruction, and therefore the sanctions should be terminated.
