Tibetan Book Bar in Beijing
A book bar that highlights the history, culture and literature of Tibetan ethnic group in southwest China has opened in an urban area of China's capital.
Near the Fahua Temple, the 60 square-meter book bar is decorated with typical Tibetan ornaments, landscape pictures and religious items. More than 200 kinds of books about Tibet Autonomous Region and Tibetan people are available for readers at the bar.
Visitors can also enjoy traditional Tibetan music and have a taste of Tibetan drinks and snacks.
Gyaco, the 30 year-old bar owner, said he used up all of his savings to open the book bar with the idea of helping local residents learn more about the mysterious land of Tibet.
"Many people have a strong will to tour the land, the bar is a good place for them to get a comprehensive understanding of Tibet, " Gyaco said.
In 1998, Gyaco completed a training program in the field of economic management at the Central University for Nationalities. "During my stay in Beijing after the training, I felt more and more anxious to open such a book bar in the city," he said.
Now the book bar has attracted flocks of local residents as well as Tibetan people studying or living in Beijing.
The visitors said the people who have never been to Tibet will dream more about that land if they come to the bar and that those who are from or have been to Tibet will relive their nostalgia of the plateau.
