Former Yugoslav President Milosevic Returns to PrisonFormer Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic returned to prison at 5 p.m. (1600 GMT) Friday under police guard after two days of medical treatment at a military hospital, Yugoslavia's Tanjug news agency reported.Milosevic was sent back to Belgrade's central prison under tight security according to an order issued by a local court, Tanjug said. In a statement, Serbian Minister of Justice Vladan Batic told reporters Thursday that a medical check-up by a 10-doctor medical team shows that Milosevic is "healthy" and fits enough for continued detention pending investigations for alleged crimes while in office. Milosevic was rushed to hospital late Wednesday night because of heart problem after preliminary examination by the prison's doctors. Milosevic was arrested on April 1 by Serbian police under charges of abuse of power and corruption after his step-down last October. He has since been detained in the central prison. Milosevic's Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) called for his immediate release in a statement earlier Wednesday. It said "the unbearable conditions in the central prison has threatened his health." |
