Chinese Painter Holds Calligraphy and Painting Show in Kenya

Renowned Chinese painter Shi Xiang Friday opened his three-day exhibition of Chinese calligraphy and painting at the Kenya International Conference Center in Nairobi.

On display are some 50 of his works showing a unique style incorporating Chinese paintings with calligraphy, which was acclaimed by Kenyan artists and visitors form different walks of life.

Shi Xiang, winner of many international calligraphy and painting competitions, demonstrated his painting skills before the visitors at the opening ceremony.

He, in time of a few minutes, completed his calligraphic work entitled "The Auspicious Dragon and Phoenix" and presented it to Kassim Ownago, Chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce

and Industry.

He said he is proud that his works have been collected by many museums in China and dignities abroad including Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi.

At the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Du Qiwen said the exhibition does give a vivid show of China's splendid culture to Kenya and Africa at large. He hoped that activities

like this will promote the cultural exchanges between China and Africa.
