DPRK Leader Elevates Ranks of Leading Military OfficersSupreme Commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA) Kim Jong Il issued Friday an order conferring higher military ranks on leading KPA officers, reported the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).One leading officer was promoted to colonel general, three were given the rank of lieutenant general and 15 others became major generals, according to the official news agency of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). In the order, Kim promoted these military officers on the occasion of the Sun's day (the birthday of the late DPRK leader Kim Il Sung, who was born on April 15, 1912, and made the country's "eternal president" four years after his 1994 death). He hoped that the promoted officers will as ever firmly guarantee the security of the country, devote themselves whole-heartedly to the building of a powerful socialist nation, be faithful to the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea and undertake their responsibility as the hard core of the DPRK's armed forces. |
