Schneider Opens Joint Venture in N. China City

A joint venture funded by Schneider, the world's largest low voltage electrical goods manufacturer, and two local partners was put into operation in Tianjin Municipality, north China, Thursday.

The joint venture, which is located in the Tianjin Development Zone, will manufacture small circuit-breakers, accessories, and small panels using advanced technology.

In 1988, Schneider started its business in China by setting up the Tianjin Merlin Gerin Co. Ltd., which has since produced a total profit of more than 300 million yuan. To date, Schneider has opened eight factories in China.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, L Martin, an official from the French Embassy, praised Tianjin for its attractive geological and investment conditions and said that more French companies are expected to open factories there.
