Inner Mongolia Has Over 4 Million Mongolia People
North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region announced recently that it now has over 4 million people belonging to the Mongolia ethnic group.
China conducted its fifth nationwide census on November 1, 2000. Statistics show that Inner Mongolia has a total population of 23. 75 million. The number of Mongolians now stand at 4.0292 million.
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is China's first autonomous region, and people of Mongolian ethnic group are famous for their diligence, bravery and wisdom. China only had 1.3 million people of Mongolian ethnic group when the country was founded in 1949.
Li Bin, director of the regional statistics bureau said that although the growth rate of the ethnic population has decreased, it still stays at a high growth level.
He also noted that the annual population growth rate of Mongolia ethnic group within Inner Mongolia has decreased from 3.9 percent to 1.72 percent, which shows that the Mongolian population of the region has stepped into a period of steady growth.
