Russia Pays Bail for Borodin: Lawyer Says
The Russian Federation has paid the full five million Swiss francs ($2.92 million) bail ordered by a Geneva court for the release of ex-Kremlin aide Pavel Borodin, his lawyer said on Thursday.
Vincent Solari, one of Borodin's lawyers in Geneva, said his client, who remains indicted on Swiss charges of money-laundering, would probably return to Russia on Friday.
Earlier, a three-judge tribunal maintained a charge of money-laundering kickbacks for Kremlin renovation contracts, which carries a maximum three-year sentence. It did not impose travel restrictions on Borodin, but ordered him to remain available for questioning in the two-year Swiss inquiry.
"The bail has just been paid to the courtroom cashier," Solari told Reuters. "It was paid by the Russian Federation.
Solari, asked whether Borodin, 54, was expected to leave Geneva for Russia on Friday, replied: "We are arranging things right now. He will likely leave tomorrow for Russia."
