French-Russian Contacts to Focus on European Security, Middle East
France and Russia will focus their contacts in the coming weeks on the European security, the Middle East peace process and Iraq, French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine announced Thursday after meeting with his Russian counterpart Igor Ivanov.
"We have decided to keep contact in the coming weeks, particularly on three issues: the security of Europe, the situation in the Middle East and the reflection over the Iraq issue, which are of priority," said Vedrine.
Ivanov, arriving here Wednesday for the ministerial meeting of the Group of Contact on ex-Yugoslavia, will also meet with French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin Thursday afternoon.
Earlier Thursday morning, he met with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, who left Paris for the Balkans after the ministerial meeting on Balkans affairs.
