Seventh China Small Commodities Fair to Open in October

The Seventh China Small Commodities Fair will be held October 22-26, in Yiwu City, Zhejiang Province, the country's largest small commodities trade and export base.

The fair is co-sponsored by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the China Federation of Light Industries and the China General Chamber of Commerce.

Yiwu has held the annual event since 1995. Last year, nearly 1, 300 domestic and overseas enterprises participated in the fair, sealing deals totaling 3.86 billion yuan and 20 investment projects worth a total of US$96 million.

In the meantime, Yiwu has tried hard to promote exports. So far, it has set up business outlets in foreign countries, such as South Africa, and invited foreign businessmen to open offices in the city.

Local manufacturers have also been encouraged to increase exports to foreign countries and regions, which now number 120. The city's exports totaled 8 billion yuan last year.
