Chinese, Brazilian Leaders Satisfied with Closer TiesChinese President Jiang Zemin and his Brazilian counterpart Fernando Henrique Cardoso expressed satisfaction Wednesday that strategic partnership between the two countries has seen steady development.Speaking at a state banquet in Jiang's honor, Cardoso said that frequent exchanges of high-level visits "are of vital importance" for bilateral ties. President Jiang's visit "is of special meaning" for Brazil as it reaffirmed the high priority given by both sides to enhancing this strategic partnership, he said. He noted that the talks between the two leaders earlier Wednesday confirmed both have identical views and interests, which forms the foundation for closer cooperation between the two countries." The Brazilian President pledged further efforts to work together with China for more fruitful results in future cooperation. In reply, President Jiang said China has always valued its ties with Brazil and stressed the importance that China and Brazil, the two largest developing countries in Asia and Latin America, should view and handle bilateral cooperation from a strategic perspective amidst the growing trend toward multi-polarization and globalization. The common goal of rejuvenating national economy, raising people's living standard and safeguarding world peace and stability linked China and Brazil together, Jiang added. The steady growth of Sino-Brazilian ties not only conforms with the fundamental interest of the two countries, but that of the developing countries as a whole, and contributes to the lasting peace and prosperity in their respective regions and the world at large, the president said. President Jiang arrived here earlier Wednesday for a brief working visit. This is his second visit to Brazil in eight years. |
