College Students Not Permitted to Get Married

Although China has set loose its control on college enrollment qualification, allowing married applicants to sit college entrance exam, yet still college students in campus are not permitted to get married according to the current regulations for student's record management, said a person in charge of Beijing Municipal Education Committee.

A circular promulgated by the Ministry of Education states that China will lift the restrictions on marriage status and age for examinees above 25 years old.

In an interview with reporters, when asked whether college students in campus can get married, the person said no. But the Ministry of Education may not exclude the possibility of allowing students to get married after the reforms of student's study record system in China. As the matter stands that there is no limitation on age for college entrance exam, whether sophomore in senior high school or minors are allowed to do it. The person said that should a student hold a senior high school graduate certificate or equal to that s/he is qualified to take the exam.

According to reports, in developed countries, you can hardly see such limitation. A university president predicts that along with the development of society and popularization of higher education, such restriction is plausible to be called off in the future.
