Premier Zhu Meets Luxembourg Deputy PM

Premier Zhu Rongji said that China has always attached importance to its relations with Luxembourg and bilateral cooperation enjoys vast potential.

Zhu made the remark here Thursday in a meeting with visiting Deputy Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Madam Lydie Polfer, who arrived here Tuesday on an official visit to China as guest of Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan.

Zhu said that China is delighted to see that bilateral friendly cooperation in various fields is developing rapidly.

Luxembourg, although small in terms of territory, enjoys a developed economy and plays an active role in the world political arena, said Zhu.

It is in the interests of the two countries to enhance bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit, he said.

Agreeing with Zhu on his positive evaluation of bilateral ties, Polfer, who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Public Administration and Administrative Reform, said that Luxembourg is satisfied with the achievements in bilateral cooperation in various areas.

She said that Luxembourg is ready to make concerted efforts with China to raise bilateral relations to a new level.

Zhu also briefed Polfer on China's domestic political and economic situation.

This is Polfer's first visit to China since she became deputy prime minister.
