Radar Navigation Systems Equipped in Chinese Harbors

Sixteen key harbors along China's coastline have been equipped with radar navigation systems to improve navigation security, sources from a recent national navigation work conference revealed.

Vessels that enter sea areas within the supervision of such radar system are required to report the details required by the respective management centers of the harbors, including Dalian, Tianjin and Shanghai.

The radar system will quickly navigate the vessels according to their speeds, locations, and sailing directions, said Liu Shi, vice director of the China Maritime Safety Administration (CMSA).

The radar system has offered navigation services to some 3 million vessels in recent years, and has been used in some 1,000 maritime rescues so far, avoiding an economic loss of more than 200 million yuan (US$24.1 million), statistics from the conference show.
