Macao Receives More Tourists in 2000

A total of 9.16 million people visited China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) in the year 2000, up 23 percent from the previous year, the Statistics and Census Services of the SAR government has announced.

Of the figure, the number of tourists in group reached 1.49 million, soaring 41 percent.

The per capita consumption of the visitors was 1,367 patacas (US$170.9), while that of the tourists from inland China was the highest, reaching 2,401 patacas £šUS$300£©, the source said.

The hotels in Macao accommodated 2.69 million people, increasing 19 percent and scoring an occupancy rate of 57.6 percent.

Last year, 143,800 Macao people, out of a population of some 438,000, traveled to other places in groups. About 75 percent of them went to the inland areas of China. Thailand and Taiwan attracted 7 percent and 5 percent, respectively, of the total, statistics show.
