FM Meets Kuwaiti Emir's Special Envoy

China is ready to join the international community to continue their efforts for an early realization of peace and stability in the Gulf region.

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan made the remark Thursday in a meeting with Sheikh Saoud Naser Al-Sabah, special envoy of Emir Jaber of Kuwait.

During the meeting, Saoud passed on Jaber's letter to Chinese President Jiang Zemin and briefed Tang on the 13th Arab summit meeting and Kuwait's view on the latest development of the current situation in the Gulf.

Speaking highly of the importance and trust placed on China by Kuwaiti leaders, Tang stressed that China, as a friend of the Arab world, has always supported the just cause of Arab states and all their efforts for the realization of regional peace and development.

China, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has all along adhered to its principled position on the Iraqi issue and backed all positive suggestions and propositions conducive to the resolution of this issue.
