Chinese Ambassador Urges Japan to Handle Textbook Issue SeriouslyChinese Ambassador to Japan Chen Jian on Thursday lodged a protest once again against the Japanese government's approval of a controversial history textbook which contains distorted historical facts, urging the Japanese government to handle the issue seriously.The Chinese government has so far expounded its solemn and just stand on the textbook issue on several occasions, and expressed the Chinese people's strong indignation and dissatisfaction, Chen said in a meeting with Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Yudaka Kawashima. The Chinese government has also urged the Japanese government to fulfill its responsibility in correcting the mistake in the textbook which distorts history and beautify Japanese past aggressions against its Asian neighbors, eliminating the odious impacts the textbook has brought about, Chen said, adding that the Chinese government and people are awaiting the Japanese government 's actual action. "The textbook issue has an important bearing on the political foundation of Sino-Japanese relations, as well as whether Japan will continue going along the road of peaceful development," Chen said, "the textbook issue is an important principle issue." Noting that the Japanese government holds an unshakable responsibility in the approval of the history-distorting textbook, Chen reiterated his demand that the Japanese government attaches importance to China's stance and seriously and correctly deal with calls from peoples of Asian countries which suffered greatly from Japan's past aggressions. Kawashima said he seriously listened to the Chinese stance, and will report to Japanese leaders immediately. The Japanese government does not share the view about history as contained on the textbook, he added.
