One Dead as Russians Come Under Fire in Kosovo

At least one person died on Wednesday when Russian peacekeepers came under fire in Yugoslavia's troubled Kosovo province, Russia's RIA news agency reported, citing officials of the KFOR peacekeeping force.

The incident happened in the afternoon near Serbia's administrative border with the breakaway region, RIA said.

One person died and others were wounded in the attack, it said. Further details were not immediately available.

Russian troops are part of a NATO-led multinational peacekeeping force deployed in the province, which is populated mainly by ethnic Albanians who want independence from Serbian-dominated Yugoslavia.
