China Mobile to Close Analogue Phone Network This YearendChina Mobile Communications Corporation declared April 10 that it will launch a nationwide web transfer work for the China Mobile analogue phone users. By then, the users of analogue mobile phones not only can have a free web transfer to the GSM digital network at China Mobile's local business offices or designated agencies, but can get an unpaid digital handset, and if they don't want the device, may get other compensation of equal value. It is reported that China Mobile will stop the international and domestic roaming services of analogue mobile phone network from June 30 and then stop all such services by December 31 this year, the whole network will be closed. After the closure, China Mobile will provide its users with recording services for half a year. Currently, there are over 2.5 million users of analogue mobile telephones in China. The colossal project of web transfer for such a huge group of users will cost China Mobile several billion yuan to provide these users with free digital mobile phones. However, according to China Mobile, since the web transfer work has been under long preparation and reserve funds have been put aside, so the project will not affect this year's profits of the corporation.
