Kim Dae-jung Invited to Visit Cambodia: Hun Sen

Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen said Wednesday evening that he had invited South Korean President Kim Dae-jung to visit Cambodia.

Hun Sen said this to reporters upon his arrival at the Pochentong airport after concluding his three-day official visit to South Korea.

It remains unclear whether Kim Dae-jung can visit Cambodia this year, but Hun Sen said Kim will have to come to Cambodia in 2002 to attend the ASEAN summit which is to be hosted by Cambodia. Kim will attend the ASEAN plus three summit.

During his visit, several pacts on bilateral agreements between Cambodia and South Korea were signed that include air services, cultural exchange and loan agreement.

Hun Sen said that it was his first historical visit to South Korea since he had been re-elected as a prime minister in 1998. The visit has further strengthened bilateral cooperation between the two country, he said.

The two countries reestablished diplomatic relations in 1996, which was cut off in 1975.
