At Least 47 Die in Stampede at Football Match in S. Africa

At least 47 people were killed and many others injured in a stampede at a football match held Wednesday in Johannesburg, the local media reported.

The stampede occurred as spectators tried to squeeze into the already packed Ellis Park stadium, according to the report.

A live television broadcast by the state SABC showed bodies strewn on the field, covered in blankets.
