Chinese President Arrives in Brazil for Working Visit
Chinese President Jiang Zemin arrived in Brasilia Wednesday afternoon for a working visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Fernando Enrique Cardoso.

Jiang is scheduled to hold talk with Cardoso later today.

Jiang's entourage who arrived aboard the same plane included Jiang's wife Wang Yeping, Vice Premier Qian Qichen and his wife Zhou Hanqiong.

In a written speech distributed at the airport, Jiang said he was pleased to visit Brazil again.

With rich natural resources and gigantic development potentials, Brazil played an important role in regional and global affairs, he said.

Under the leadership of President Cardoso, Brazil achieved political stability and economic growth, and undertook active diplomatic, thereby winning extensive praise of the international community, he said.

As two largest developing countries in east and west spheres respectively, China and Brazil have the common tasks of developing economy, making people rich and the country competitive, Jiang said.

"In the area of maintaining world peace and promoting common development, we share common historic responsibility and cooperative ground," he said, adding that the two countries also have same aspiration for promoting bilateral friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Jiang also highly commended the remarkable cooperation achieved by the two countries in all fields after China and Brazil forged diplomatic ties, particularly after the leaders of the two countries agreed to build up a strategic partnership.

He reiterated that the Chinese government highly valued its ties with Brazil and believed the visit will be crowned with a success.

Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Wan Yongxiang and Chinese people residing here welcomed Jiang at the airport.

Brazil is the fourth-leg of Jiang's six-nation tour of Latin America. He came here after concluding his state visit to Uruguay.
