Vietnam Exports 100 Million Tons of Crude Oil Since 1987Vietnam has exported more than 100 million tons of crude oil since April 1987, when the country began exporting crude oil.Vietnam, which pumped the 1st ton of crude in 1986, exported the 100 millionth ton of crude oil on April 1, 2001, according to a report of Vietnam News Agency on Wednesday. Vietnam's export of crude oil was only 5.08 million tons in the 1986-1990 period. The figure rose six folds to 30 million tons in the 1990-1995, and reached the peak of 60.5 million tons in the 1995-2000 period. The export value of crude oil of the country totaled 15.2 billion US dollars in the past 15 years. More than 12.3 billion dollars were remitted to the state and the remainder to foreign partners. Crude oil export has been an important hard currency earner of the country, especially in early 1990s. Till now, crude oil is still one of the country's biggest export staples. Vietnam has exported crude oil to Japan, the United States, South Korea, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Australia. The country plans to tap between 18 and 20 million tons of crude oil a year in the coming period. |
