Chinese in Kiev Condemn US over Jet Collision

The Chinese community in Ukraine on Tuesday condemned an incident involving a US surveillance plane that resulted in the crash of a Chinese fighter jet.

The community voiced firm support for the Chinese government.

A US plane conducting surveillance on April 1 near the economic zone off the coast of China's Hainan Island collided with a Chinese fighter jet that was tracking it. Following the collision, the damaged US plane landed at an airport on Hainan without China's permission.

A statement released after a meeting hosted by the Association of the Chinese colony in Kiev, said the act of the US plane revealed US hegemony, by serving as the "World Cop" and said the US side should bear full responsibility for the collision.

"Being of Chinese descent, we are indignant at the hegemonic conduct of the US," the representatives at the meeting said.

They said hegemonic conduct of the US was also proven by its unreasonable exculpation instead of bearing responsibility for the collision.

"We firmly support the Chinese government and believe the US must apologize to Chinese people immediately, bear responsibility for the event, compensate losses to the Chinese side, and stop all hostile actions against China," they said.
