Entrepreneur Yang on UPS's Direct China Flight

UPS, the world's largest package distributor, recently opened its direct China flight and settled down in Shanghai. People could not help but to ask: Is fiercer competition to be mounted in China's express service and will greater choice be available for people's express service? How to look upon UPS' direct China entry and how should Shanghai's express service react ...

In face of UPS's direct China flight, Yang Guoping, general manager of Dazhong Transportation Corp, known for its express service in Shanghai, told his viewpoints in a recent interview given.

Yang Guoping said that some world famous package distributors like UPS actually entered China at an early time though no direct flights had been licensed. UPS's direct China flight licensed will undoubtedly have impacts on China's service market. But we will be benefited by its new concepts for developing express service as the world's largest package distributor: first, service must be put in a top place and innovative wholehearted services provided at all time. Second, first attention must be paid to management and to great details in work. Third, equal stress must be placed on technology. To greet the coming information age, UPS has established an effective information platform and invested US$11 billion in information network construction in last year alone. Yang thought that with the development of globalization of the world economy, especially after China's access to the WTO, more and more large international enterprises like UPS will get into China which will for sure impact the country's distribution stry. China's service should face the challenge calmly and be prepared for all possible risks ahead.

When talking about the prospects for the development of Dazhong Transportation Corp, Yang said that Dazhong had started business on transportation as early as 1994. In the past seven years, its transportation and distribution business has experienced a fast growth. However, it still has a long way to go in many aspects comparing with some world famous service giants such as UPS, TNT and FedEx, etc. UPS' direct China flight has opened a window for Dazhong to link its business up with the international market and provided it with an opportunity for making an intensive study into the world service market. Besides, as a fund-intensive industry, distribution service will have to be built on a large amount of investment. As a listed company, Dazhong has advantages in finance. Being a part of the fledgling industries backed by central and local authorities during the 10th Five-year Plan period, Yang said, Dazhong will strive for a boom of its distribution business and win wide fame for its innovative international brand service to convenience a multitude of customers throughout the world.
