Kunming Int'l Tourism Festival Opens
The Second China Kunming International Tourism Festival opened Tuesday in this capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province.
A variety of activities will be held at the Festival, including galas featuring local people from 15 ethnic groups, sports games, an international art festival, and a tourist trade fair.
The tourism festival, jointly organized by the National Tourism Administration and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government, is scheduled to close on May 10. Tourism officials predict that the festival will attract about five million tourists from home and abroad.
Attending the opening ceremony were Tian Jiyun, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and Pongpol Adireksarn, deputy prime minister of Thailand.
