Search for Missing Pilot Continues

China's military and civilians are continuing the search for Wang Wei, the missing pilot of the Chinese fighter jet that was crashed in a collision with a US surveillance plane April 1, according to the Chinese Navy.

By 18:00 of Tuesday, the Navy had dispatched 95 warship missions and 107 aircraft sorties for the rescue efforts. There have also been more than 1,000 search missions of civilian vessels and helicopters from the Ministry of Communications and Guangdong and Hainan provinces.

The military and civilian search forces have amounted to 56,000 person-times, and they have covered about 300,000 sq. km of the South China Sea.

The Navy and other departments concerned have made timely readjustments in their search in accordance with climatic changes.

In the past three days, soldiers and local fishermen have also combed the southeastern coast of Hainan Island and isles and reefs around the Xisha Islands.
