Chief of General Staff Meets Brazilian Defense Minister

Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, met here Tuesday with visiting Brazilian Defense Minister Graldo Magela Da Cruz Quintao.

Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that Sino-Brazilian relations have developed smoothly since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1974.

The military-to-military ties between China and Brazil have also expanded, he added. Fu voiced his hope for maintaining the stable and healthy development of relations between the two armed forces in all fields.

He reaffirmed the Chinese government's stance on the Taiwan issue, and expressed gratitude for the support of the Brazilian government in this regard.

Quintao said that Brazilian government has attached importance to developing relations with China, and he expressed hope that his China tour will boost cooperation between the two states and armed forces.
