HK's Largest Library to Be Open in May

The Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL), the largest one in the territory, will be open on May 17, a spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) announced Monday.

The HKCL will open seven days a week totaling 68 hours, which is the most extensive among all public libraries in Hong Kong. It will also open on public holidays (except the first to third day of the Chinese New Year Holidays, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, New Year Day and Good Friday).

Upon completion, the HKCL, will become the core of the public library service network of the Hong Kong Public Libraries System, functioning as a major information center in the territory.

The HKCL, located at Moreton Terrace, Causeway Bay, is a 12- storey-high building with a gross floor area of 33,800 square meters. Its initial stock is 1.2 million items, which is anticipated to expand to a total capacity of 2 million.
