HAIRBLVD: First US Boulevard Identified by Chinese Brand

It is the first time in the US history to name an American boulevard after a Chinese brand. On the afternoon of April 5, a grand unveiling ceremony was held to name the HAIRBLVD (Haier Boulevard) in Camden, South Carolina of the United States.

The South Carolina Senate gave a solemn ceremony to welcome Zhang Ruimin, CEO of Haier Group, and celebrated the opening of the Hairblvd. Covering an area of 600 mu (15 mu=1 hectare), the Haier Industrial Park in Camden is the largest overseas producing base of Haier Group in the US.

Since Haier Industrial Park (US) put its icebox project into production in March last year, its product supply has fallen short of local demand. The project has contributed to local economy, meanwhile, provided nearly 200 job opportunities for local residents. To express its gratitude to Haier Group, the government of Kershaw County, South Carolina State, decided to rename the Federal Ave. near Haier Industrial Park as "Hairblvd" gratuitously.

Ms. Mary, Mayor of Camden, made a speech at the ceremony. "When some large enterprises are busy laying off jobbers, Haier has developed fast. It is so admirable," Mary said, "it has not only helped bring a boost to local government's revenue, but has also, what's more important, created considerable job opportunities for local residents." To express their appreciation, Mayor Mary granted a golden key of Camden City, a symbol for success and fortune, to CEO Zhang solemnly. Meanwhile, Zhang was awarded title of "honorary citizen of Camden".

Mr. Stirling, director of the Commerce Department of South Carolina State said at the ceremony that Haier Industrial Park will help more Chinese to know more about South Carolina State. Haier will by its Industrial Park make long-term contribution to the region. Nowadays, nearly everyone regards Haier as a symbol of high quality. It has come to help in a change of the impression of Chinese products in people's mind.

Zhang Ruimin accepted an interview by local journalists right under the new guidepost of "Hairblvd". "Hairblvd marks the prosperity of Chinese name brand products in the mind of American consumers", Zhang said, "it is the first time to name American avenue after a Chinese brand. Haier opens factories in the US and other countries not only to sell products, but also to combine Haier culture, especially Chinese culture, with local culture by which means to advance with lasting vitality and great potentiality."
