China Railcom Plans to Merge with China Unicom

China Railway Communications Group (China Railcom) said in addition to introducing international strategic investors, the company is also planning to merge with China Unicom, and its subsidiary Hong Kong Chinarail Telecom intends to spin off its Internet business to seek listing, Hong Kong Commercial Daily reported.

China Railcom hopes to narrow the gap between the two telecommunications operators in three years, and seek a voluntary merger in accordance with market operation mode. A possible mode of merger is swap of shares.
