Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said Monday the concept of "One Country, Two Systems" has been successfully implemented and become an everyday reality in Hong Kong.

Tung made these remarks when paying farewell to Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong Ma Yuzhen here Monday.

Tung recalled: "I attended the opening ceremony of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People Republic of China in HKSAR. From that day onwards, Commissioner Ma and I assumed responsibility in our respective areas for the implementation of the unprecedented 'One Country, Two Systems'concept in Hong Kong."

Tung said that nearly four years have since passed, "we are very proud and pleased to see that 'One Country, Two Systems' concept has been successfully implemented and has become an everyday reality." "Commissioner Ma has worked tirelessly and made an important contribution to this achievement," he said.

He added, "I believe the tremendous contribution made by Commissioner Ma has provided us with valuable experience and it has laid a firm foundation for us to take forward our work."
