Malaysian Navy Chief Meets U.S. Seventh Fleet Commander

Malaysian Navy chief Abu Bakar Abdul Jamal met here Monday United States Seventh Fleet Commander Vice-Admiral James W. Metzger.

Metzger arrived Sunday on board the USS Blue Ridge, an amphibious and control ship based in Yokohama, Japan, and the flagship of the US Seventh Fleet, which is docked at Port Klang for a four-day visit to Malaysia.

The visit is to strengthen relations between the navies of the two nations and to share experiences, Abu Bakar said after the meeting, adding "We would also use the visit to exchange information especially on intelligence matters to maintain peace in the region."

He said the Malaysian Navy had close working relationship with the U.S. especially in the area of training and joint navy exercises.
