Explosion, Large Fire at Schiphol Airport

An explosion and large fire took place in the passenger terminal of Schiphol international airport in Amsterdam Sunday.

The explosion apparently occurred in an oven of the Burger King restaurant in the airport's main shopping plaza, and the resulting fire spread to the roof of the terminal and other shops, according to the Dutch television.

Thousands of people were evacuated from the airport. Ambulances and police vehicles were screaming into the airport. Traffic was halted from national highways leading to the airport, and all entrances were blocked. Trains were halted, too.

According to a police operator, no one was injured.

Dutch television reported that the main fire was extinguished.
