Overseas Tourists to Jiangsu on the Increase

East China's Jiangsu Province received 1.61 million overseas tourists last year, up 20 percent from the year before, statistics show.

Overseas tourists to the province came mainly from Asian countries and regions, with Japan and Malaysia at the top, according to the provincial tourism administration.

Tourists from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan numbered 630,000 of the total, the administration said.

The province made concrete efforts last year to develop new tourist sites, and improve infrastructure and services. Jiangsu has 18 major tourist sites, each has over one million visitors a year in recent years, and 100 additional sites receiving 200,000 visitors, according to the statistics.

Jiangsu has integrated tourism development with its urbanization plan and built a good urban environment to offer overseas tourists better services.

Five cities in the province, namely, Suzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi, Yangzhou and Zhenjiang, are rated as excellent national tourist cities in China. The five cities receive 90 percent of the province's total overseas tourists.
