Gunman Involved in Senior S.Lankan Custom Officer's Murder Arrested

A gunman believed to be the assassin of Sri Lanka's Customs Assistant Superintendent Sujith Prasama Perera has been arrested by police, the state-run Daily News said on Saturday.

The suspect was arrested on Friday along with three others in connection with the case. The gunman in custody had been allegedly involved in eight other murders. Police are trying to ascertain the identity of the victims.

Police said that the motive of the murder was to hamper the investigation into a fraud conducted by the custom officer. Before his death certain persons involved in import trade had contacts with the suspects, they added.

Sujith Perera was shot dead on March 24 by two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle when he was driving his car from his mother- in-law's residence. His brother-in-law who was with him in the war was seriously injured.
