My Husband Is still Alive: Missing Pilot's Wife

The wife of the missing Chinese pilot whose fighter jet was rammed and crashed by a U.S. spy plane believes that her husband is still alive.

Ruan Guoqin, wife of Wang Wei, said that she is hoping her husband will return safely, despite the fact that he parachuted into the sea five days ago.

"I feel proud of him, as he was safeguarding the sovereignty of the country and performing his duty as an air force pilot," she said.

Du Qinglin, secretary of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited Ruan Friday.

They told Ruan that Hainan has dispatched more than 870 fishing ships to search for her husband.

"Wang Wei is the pride of the whole nation, and his wife is a credit to him," Du said.
