Direct Train Line Connects Moscow-Wenzhou

A freight train line connecting Moscow and Wenzhou, an economic powerhouse in east China's Zhejiang Province, went into operation Friday evening.

The journey takes 17 to 19 days, at least 10 days less than the current route, said Wang Ming, station master of the Wenzhou Railway Station.

The line, the second of its kind connecting China with Moscow, will carry freight once a week, and this schedule will be gradually increased to twice or even more times a week, Wang said.

On its maiden trip, the 35-carriage train carried commodities from Zhejiang and neighboring Fujian Province. Experts believe the direct link will further enhance Sino-Russian ties in the field of bilateral trade and economics.

Wenzhou accounts for more than 30 percent of China's exports to Russia.
