Chinese Entrepreneurs Hold Higher Confidence

The confidence index of Chinese entrepreneurs was 122.0 points in the first quarter of 2001, up 10.7 points compared with the same period last year.

The latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics indicated that entrepreneurs in construction, transportation post and communication services have increased their confidence, especially the real estate agents.

Those in state-owned enterprises (SOEs) rose their confidence index to 117.6 points, a slightly increase than that of 2000. Meanwhile, private company entrepreneurs have shown remarkable confidence during the period.

Higher increases were found in entrepreneurs of the western areas than in the central and eastern areas.

Experts pointed out that entrepreneurs will continue to have higher confidence towards the development of domestic macro- economy in the second quarter, reaching some 124 points.
